Need advice/tips on O-line/D-line techniques and strategy?

Hi, my son is going into middle school this year and will be playing in on the Off and Def line. They run a 4-2-5 on defense and they run a spread running attack offense.

I am looking for good advice on how to help him before the season starts. Or any place online that has good techniques etc. He already knows how to ';duck walk'; from a summer camp.

Some questions I have

- Coaches talk about hitting half a man instead of going against a full man...what does that mean?

-What is the difference in run blocking and pass blocking?

-How do you know which man you are blocking on defense and how to block them?

- What are ways to block a gap on the d-line?Need advice/tips on O-line/D-line techniques and strategy?
hitting half a man is not hitting them with all your strength our tring to make an arm tackle.

in run blocking u can go werever u want to block someone and in pass blocking the blockers have to stay on the line of scrimmage and if they go past it they would be an illegal wide reciever.

on defense u dont block people u hjave a zone or u are in a blitz

never spin! never go to the groound! stay low keep your head up and make sure u dont go any were until the ball is passed the line of scrimmage.

and good luck to your sonNeed advice/tips on O-line/D-line techniques and strategy?
Hitting half a man usually goes for the defensive side of the ball. You want to attack the Offensive Linemen with one hand in the middle of his chest and the other under his arm pit. It is easier to control half the man.

There is a huge difference between pass blocking and run blocking. When you pass block you are taking small kick step backwards while holding off the DL from the QB to form a pocket.

When you run block you are attacking the Defensive Player and are coming off of the Line of Scrimmage. That is a key difference, you cannot pass block past the line of scrimmage.

About knowing who to block... it all depends on the play being run. There is no set defender that you block. It all depends on the assignment for the given play.

At this point I would suggest you focus on teaching your son the proper stances, make sure he plays low. Football is now played up high, let him know that the lowest man wins.

A good stance is key to playing on the line.
