Trip to Key West August 9 & 10 - any tips or advice?

My wife and I are going to Key West for our 14th Anniversary in early August.

We plan on staying at the Lighthouse Court Hotel across the street from the Hemingway House.

Does anyone have any tips or advice for our trip?Trip to Key West August 9 %26amp; 10 - any tips or advice?
It is impossible to not enjoy yourself in Key West.....just park your car and walk or ride a bike. Don't miss the sunset at Mallory. Taste the nightlife and people watch at the same time. To me people watching a big part of the Key West scene. (contrary to the previous answer, panhandling is not rampant and the natives are friendly). The only thing that bothered me a bit was the town is a bit pricey but not out of all reason

One other comment, when on vacation i do not normally watch to tv or listen to the radio but considering the time you will be there you might want to catch the weather channel once a day to be sure there are no hurricanes in the area. It there is a remote chance of one hitting, evacuate early because there is only one road out and it gets crowded quicklyTrip to Key West August 9 %26amp; 10 - any tips or advice?
Key West is lots of fun with a cool atmosphere. Nightime is the best as it cools down just a little. Don't expect A/C in some restaurants as they eat outside a lot. Go to Mallory Square at sunset for the ';people watching'; show. Just watch yourself and don't drink too much as there are some undesirables that will scam you if you let them.
